Denise Gracias is a self-taught emerging Toronto artist experienced in a variety of media, including pencil, charcoal, coloured pencils, pastels, watercolours, and acrylics. Currently, she works primarily with acrylics to express her faith in God by bringing Biblical scenes to life and re-creating landscapes from photos taken on her travels.
Drawing on her own personal trials and triumphs, she connects with the people she paints. Despite the struggles, suffering, disappointments, and setbacks of the human experience, Denise believes that through hope, faith, patience, prayer, and endurance, suffering eventually gives rise to joy.
Seeing God as the Supreme Artist, she paints acrylic landscapes of places that have touched her emotionally. Displaying vast open spaces offering solitude, viewers are invited to look at the beauty before them, confront their aloneness, and dialogue with the God who loves them.
